The Monroe County Sting traveled to to Rome, NY to battle to a 21-19 win over the Mohawk Valley Vikings.
In a game that did not see much scoring throughout the game, the final minutes of the game would surely be different story. With the Vikings recovering an errant screen pass late in the fourth quarter, and shortly after going on to tie the score at 13, the game was set to be a tough final minutes. On the ensuing kickoff, Chauncey Leslie would return the kickoff for the touchdown. The Sting would then make the two point conversion to lead the game 21-13.
The Vikings would not lay down however when Ryan Darling would fumble the ball around on the next kickoff only to later find his way across the field with blockers for the touchdown. The Sting would not allow the Vikings the chance to tie it on the two point conversion try, as they would stop them just short.
The Sting will be in action next Saturday (7/15) at East High School for their first home game of the 2006 season. The game will be a rematch of last seasons championship game as the Sting take on the Central NY Express at 7:30pm.
